You read that right, the diabetic guidelines are broken.

The leaning tower of Pisa is an astounding mistake. It’s a warning that has stood the test of time.

It’s an example of how important it is to have a good foundation, whether you’re a building, a bridge, or a person with diabetic neuropathy.

Without that foundation, everything you build is less effective. You can pour work into your health, but if you have a weak foundation, it can all crumble and be a waste of time.

So it is with diabetic neuropathy. That’s where we start.

By building a foundation upon which nerves can heal and grow. A firm footing that not only prevents further nerve damage but also allows the construction of strong, healthy nerves.

It starts with stabilizing blood sugar. And one thing is clear –  the diabetic guidelines are broken. This means reversing diabetes begins with ignoring the guidelines.

Improving the odds of healing.

The diabetic guidelines are proven to reverse diabetes 0.1% of the time. That’s a recipe for failure. It demonstrates the old saying, “If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you always got.”

The one diet that has shown to reverse diabetes over 60% of the time is the ketogenic diet. In a 2018 study by Virta Healthy, 60% of patients reduced or eliminated diabetes drugs during a keto eating trial.

So naturally, I recommend and teach my patients to move the direction of Keto eating.

And eating keto is astoundingly safe. For most people, it increases nutrients and energy, while causing them to lose weight and feel better. The only caveat is for some patients on diabetes medications; care must be taken to avoid low blood sugars.

Cleaning up your act.

Another component of having a healing foundation is to eliminate toxins and toxic drugs that make neuropathy worse. These include certain blood pressure medications, Statin (cholesterol drugs) and even PPI (heartburn/reflux) drugs. Many patients work with their medical doctors to reduce and eliminate these drugs.

Once we have that sorted, and patients are eating plenty of healthy fat and nutrients, they have a firm foundation for healing.

Then we’re ready for step two!

Step two involves restoring blood flow, nutrients, and using healing compounds to help grow nerves.

More on that in another post.
