What is Diabetic Neuropathy?

What is diabetic neuropathy? Diabetic neuropathy, peripheral neuropathy, or polyneuropathy, or whatever nice technical name we call it – is the death of the small nerves under the skin in your feet/toes and hands/fingers.

It sounds bad, but it feels worse. Most of the patients I have cared for over the past 5 years are almost at a loss to describe it. It’s horrible. The feet feel like they are freezing, and then burning. The pain won’t stop for some, and for others, it just started. They have numb feet, numb toes, and even numb hands as well. Strange sensations start to happen, shocks and a feeling like walking on bubble wrap, or your socks are bunched up.

It affects your ability to walk, run, dance, shop, golf, work, and even sleep. You can’t live your life. It takes away your freedom and your independence.
